So, it’s been a little while since I posted, but I wanted to wait until I got my package in the mail.

A little while ago, I found a steal on eBay for two Debbie Bliss pattern books I have been dying to knit from.

That’s right – Cathay and Simply Soft.  The first thing I plan on knitting out of these is the Shawl Collared Bolero on the cover of the Simply Soft book….the entire reason I bought the books to begin with.  I’m so excited!!!

I’m glad these came in because it’s taking my mind off of the two week wait…I feel like I am an episode of 24 and each day is counting down like *DINK – DINK – DINK – DINK – DINK*.

Anyways, I’ll post more news as it happens!

I made the most awesome… January 12, 2009

…fried rice!! I usually don’t like fried rice because it’s dry or salty or a bad combo of both. Tonight, however, I was making some Asian inspired chicken tenders when I was like “crap, I only have Mexican flavored rice in the pantry. Oh, what to do?” So, I pulled out a cookbook to get a general idea of what I was working toward. 20 minutes later, I had yummy, homemade fried rice. I’m writing the recipe down so I don’t forget it. This was DEFINITELY an improv recipe, but really good!

(Makes 2-3 Servings – depending on how hungry people are!)
1 Cup White Rice (Cooked)
1 Cup Green Peas (frozen are best, but let them sit while you cook the rice to thaw some)
1 TBSP Cooking Oil (any will do, canola, vegetable, etc.)
2 TBSP Sesame Oil
~2TBSP Soy Sauce
~3 TBSP Diced Onion
1 Beaten Egg

Put the cooking oil in a pan and heat on high until the oil swirls easily in the pan. Toss in the green peas and onions and cook until heated through. Once they are heated through, add the sesame oil and soy sauce. Mix together and add the cooked rice and egg. Toss ingredients together until the eggs are cooked and the ingredients are well blended.

That’s it! You could add some cooked chicken, pork, or shrimp and make it the meal. I was just really excited about how it turned out. No pictures of it because we ate it all!! HA!

So, I finally got a new computer – alas, all is well with the world!  I also have some pictures for you guys!

Russell decided he did actually want me to knit him a hat.  So, while I was vegging out at the house on my day off yesterday, I cast on the “Knit Hat – For Anyone!”.  Such a simple and quick knit.  I think hats with weird, complicated patterns and such are simply unnecessary.  I guess I just like ’em plain!  Anyways, I finished it in ONE DAY!  Hallelujah – I’m getting faster.  wOOt!  Here it is on the DH.  Please ignore his messy office.

Russell Hat

Admittedly, it fits my head much nicer than his – he has a big ole’ noggin!

I also cast on and have knit 5″ on the “Pretty in Pink” tank – only mine is a pretty, deep turquoise color.

Pretty in Turquoise

The miles and miles of K3P2 ribbing was wearing me down yesterday, which is why I started the hat.  I needed some instant gratification.  I decided not to go with any sort of cotton or a blend of cotton because so many of the people who knit it according to the directions said it stretched out horribly and it was way too big.  I knit a smaller size than what I wear (per reviews and the pattern) and I also used an acrylic yarn for more elasticity and wear!  Once it’s finished, I think it will become a staple in the ole wardrobe.  I plan to work on some more of this before the weekend is out, but first I must cast-on and finish Russell’s REAL hat.  It’s going to be chocolate brown and off-white – his choice.  The first one was more for fun and to use up this random skein of grey I had laying around.   I may confiscate it for myself – it fits me so well!

The Clear Blue Easy Fertility Monitor is not winning me over yet.  We’ll have to wait and see…

Holy Cow!!! Where has the time gone? January 3, 2009

So, I haven’t blogged in a while – and I promise there was a very good reason for that.  My laptop died – so sad I know!  I had that computer for three years.  I really hated to see it go, but I have a swanky new one now and I like it just the same.

Well, it’s 2009 and I can hardly believe it.  I go back to work on Monday after a wonderful two week vacation.  2008 seemed to have flown by!

I great family news – my brother is ENGAGED!!!  That’s right, my little brother is getting married.  I love his fiance and am very happy to welcome her into our crazy family.  They are really good to and for one another.

So, to reflect on 2008:
1. We moved into a house – still a rental, but much better than our apartment.  Much more freedom and peace and quiet.
2. Finally made it to Florida for the year – spent Christmas Eve with my dad, uncle, and all my cousins and their children.  It was awesome!
3. Saw Holly and Nick’s precious son celebrate his first birthday.  That little boy melts my heart.  He is such a chill little guy  – unless he’s hungry…lol.
4. Shaun turned two!  He is such a smart little man.  I love him to pieces.  He is my little helper boy and always has the most incredible smile on his face.  Such a ham and his laugh just makes you smile…even when he’s being naughty!
5. We didn’t have a baby, but we did buy our Clear Blue Easy Fertility Monitor.  We’re in our first month of use and so far I am optimistic.  I feel like this will be our year!  It will make all of our “baby-making” count much more.
6. I got all my Grandmother’s things she left in her cedar chest.  It’s beautiful and I have to say she had amazing taste in jewelry!  I feel like she is closer to me now.  Apparently I look just like her.

Other than that….it was a pretty chill year.

No pictures today – haven’t loaded them on my new computer yet.
